The Cat's Meow

Last year I lived by myself in an apartment off campus. It was definitely a big change for me- my whole life I've had at least one other person living with me. I thought I would really like living alone, but very quickly I realized how lonely it can be. Sure I had my friends I visited and who visited me, but at night I wanted something other than my TV to keep me company. That's when I decided I was going to get a pet, and it was the best decision I've ever made.

I come from a family that loves animals, starting with my grandma who was an animal rights activist when she was young. Keeping my grandma's loving spirit in mind, I decided to adopt an animal rather than buy one from a pet store. I knew I was doing the right thing by giving a home to an animal in need of loving care. With just a small adoption fee, I made a big difference and I DEFINITELY encourage you to do the same if you ever decide you want a furry friend! You're doing a great deed, it's fast, it's easy and the shelter helps you find the animal that best matches your personality type. The shelter also offers information sessions, manners classes for dogs and many other products and services to help make owning a pet an extraordinary experience :)

Now my family is the proud owner of two ADORABLE kittens (sisters!). Although they live with my parents, they are still my pride and joy EVERYDAY and we don't regret a thing. And I go home a lot on the weekends to see them :)

Here are some pictures of Judy & Liza- our kittens (The shelter named them after Judy Garland & Liza Minelli. My grandma LOVED Judy Garland so we "HAD TO" buy them in memory of her... Long story short!).

1.20.09

My blog looked real lonely and plain, soooo I decided I'm going to write an entry. I'm going to use this entry to rant a little bit... because I can :)

1. Barack Obama's inauguration - thoughts and feelings of my own and of others.
2. My bad lunch experience

1. Today, we witnessed history as we welcomed our first African American President to office. I really wish I would have gotten to watch it live, but unfortunately I had class and that wasn't an option. Anyway, I got to catch up on the footage when I got back. Despite Obama's little "slip" when swearing into office, I thought everything went great. I thought he delivered a great speech that was very optimistic and enthusiastic. Our country does need change, and I am very excited to see what follows. However, I got a little upset about a comment one of my friends made after his speech. One of my friends said he hopes that Obama's "slip" when swearing into office isn't his only mistake. Regardless if you support Obama or not, I don't think anyone should ever hope that the President of our country "messes up." I mean, really?! That's just very ignorant, and, sorry to say, just plain stupid. I'll admit, I was not a supporter of Bush but I never "hoped" he would mess up. He was leading our country, and although I might not have completely agreed with him, I was always optimistic and still trusted that he would NOT "mess up" and would lead our country the best he could. I thought that was everyone's attitude. Feel free to share your thoughts.

2. My bad lunch experience.
I was in a hurry for lunch today and needed to get home, so I went to Jimmy Johns for lunch today for the first time in a while. I loooove Jimmy Johns, so I was real excited (I know, I'm a nerd. Who gets that excited for JJs?). Anyway, I ordered my usual - #4, no sprouts, with cheese. As usual, they were fast and I was out the door five seconds later. Starving my butt off and soo excited for my Turkey Tom, I got home and unwrapped the sub and opened it up - gotta check for sprouts just in case. Well, I did find sprouts on it and thought, "no big deal, maybe they didn't hear me say no sprouts." But when I moved everything around a bit, I realized THERE WAS NO TURKEY. Really?! :( I had a sub with mayo, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and sprouts. No offense to any vegetarians out there, but that's just sick (to me). But seriously... I had a turkey-less Turkey Tom! :( I didn't have time to go back and get a new sub, so after sitting there in confusion for a good five minutes (and after literally picking apart the whole thing thinking that maybe I would find turkey hidden somewhere), I had to use my own turkey. I laughed about it later, but it was a really sad lunch for me, and my deli-section-Pick n Save-turkey-Turkey Tom sub will never compare to the real Jimmy Johns #4. I hope you all had a better lunch than I did :(
